The very first RAW-only PPV since the brand extension kicks off on September 25th. Following Back L Ash from two weeks ago, RAW will now attempt to exert its power by putting on a show to end all shows. It probably won’t amount to much.
The Build Up: A fatal four way match between Owens, Rollins, Roman Reigns and Big Cass took place. After Big Cass was eliminated via a frog splash, a wild Triple H appeared and Pedigree’d Roman Reigns. He tossed Reigns back in the ring and forced Seth on top of the Big Dog. Trips then pulled Owens into the ring and turned on The Architect. He Pedigree’d Rollins and let Owens win the vacant WWE Universal Championship. Rollins confronted Stephanie and Mick and was placed in a match against Owens.
My Pick: Kevin Owens. They need this belt to be built up, and having a one day reign followed by a one month reign would hurt the credibility of the belt.
The Background: Sasha Banks hurt her back and was forced to do a fake retirement speech, which brought out Dana Brooke. Sasha hit the backstabber (Odd move name for a face) and said she was getting her rematch at Clap for the Champions. Then, WWE forgot that they did this, and has a three way match where Sasha and Bayley both pinned each other while Dana Brooke looked on, but pretended that Sasha won. Then on RAW, they chucked Bayley into this match.
My Pick: Charlotte. I think there has to be some trepidation in putting the belt back on someone who just missed three weeks with an injury. Hot shotting this belt does little for it, and we just had the belt ripped off Sasha after only three weeks. Plus, this makes for a bigger chase for Sasha. Bayley getting thrown in makes me feel like they could have Sasha turn heel because bitches be crazy and creative doesn’t know how to write stories for the women.
The Buildup: Has been terrible. The Club kept doing dumb comedy segments, and The New Day keep coming up on top. The Club lost at SummerSlam thanks to Jon Stewart. Yep. Then, they gave away this match on RAW after realizing that The Club should not be doing funny stuff. Now, Big E will take Xavier Woods’ place for this match.
My Pick: The New Day. This will be the death of The Club all so The New Day can break Demolition’s record. Sad.
The Build Up: Roman Reigns threw Rusev into his wife, which knocked her into a cake. That’s pretty much why this started. Rusev cost Reigns a chance to be going for the Universal Championship.
My Pick: Roman Reigns. Because I don’t trust that they won’t do this.
The Build: The go home Raw saw a fatal four way match, but did not have the champion on the show. I’m surprised this is not on the preshow.
My Pick: TJ Perkins.
The Build Up: Jericho is best friends with Kevin Owens and was forced to have Sami Zayn (Owen’s former best friend) on The Highlight Reel. Jericho blasted Zayn in the forehead with a cell phone. The match was booked with a one segment build up two weeks before the PPV.
My Pick: Sami Zayn. They need to keep Zayn strong as RAW still does not have a top Babyface.
The Build: Creative had nothing for them. Sheamo and Cesaro entered into a best of 11 series with only 7 matches counting. Sheamus was up 3-0 until Cesaro roared back to 3-3.
My Pick: Sheamus. Cesaro probably couldn’t even get someone to push him on a swing set. I would love to see this be a catalyst for Cesaro going to SmackDown Live, but I doubt it. Claudio should probably leave once his contract is up and go back to ROH.
The Build: Alicia Fox shoot hit Slagnar in the face with a box. Being as Nia Jax is not like most girls, she tried to devour the former relevant performer and instead pushed her through the barricade. Now they meet in what should be the shortest Preshow match ever.
The winner: Nia Jax
