The Build Up: We have Royal Rumble a month from now, but before that, the Superstars of Raw are set to put on a show for the dwindling fan base. In a post brand split WWE, where every title is typically on the line, we get a show where the United States champion is in a singles match but not defending his belt. This will be the last PPV before Rumble, so after Sunday, expect most storylines to be placed on hold again and a few mini feuds to begin in order to get storylines for the Rumble. Let’s get into the match card.
The Build Up: Good God is this one bad. Good Guy Enzo Amore was walking back stage with his cock out after being locked out of the locker room because the showers were in a different part of the arena. He was hitting on different people and making jokes about his giant hog. He ran into Lana, who made some good facials (yum) before Bad Guy Rusev arrived and was upset that Enzo was showing off his John Thomas to Lana. Rusev continues to be put in feuds where people pick on his wife and put her down and he has to defend her. Yet he is the bad guy.
My Pick: Big Cass. Because he is big.
The Build Up: The New Day have destroyed the Tag Team scene on RAW, and I mean that in that every single team have become a joke that can’t beat The New Day. The New Day were able to break a record nobody knew about or cared about. Cesaro and Sheamus won a four team battle royal over The Golden Truth, The Shining Stars and The Club to earn the right to face The New Day for the Twenty Fortieth Time.
My Pick: Swiss White Chocolate. Please take the belts off the New Day so we can care about the tag scene again.
The Build Up: Braun Strowman is a big bad monster. Sami Zayn wanted to become relevant again by taking out the guy who nobody in the lower card can beat. Mick Foley decided that he would rather put guys who they would probably have to pay a lot of worker’s comp cases to instead of a guy under contract. Sami would not relent and threatened to not perform on RAW. Foley trolled him by saying that he was traded to SmackDown Live for Eva Marie. Zayn was pissed, and Foley told him to hold onto that anger as he faces Strowman in a 10 minute Time Limit Match.
My Pick: Time Limit Draw. You can have Braun completely destroy Zayn but still have Zayn get the moral victory via making it 10 minutes. Braun can keep killing Zayn after the match.
The Build Up: There isn’t much. These three keep facing each other. Somehow a non-title storyline has more build to it than the title storyline.
My Pick: Rich Swann.
The Build: Seth Rollins continued to try to take on Triple H through his proxy, Kevin Owens. He had a chance to win the Universal Championship but was attacked by Sin Nakamura (AKA Chris Jericho in disguise). Seth will get his chance at revenge against Chris Jericho.
My Pick: Seth Rollins. This feels like a way to keep Seth busy until the Rumble.
The Build: The longest running feud currently on TV, Sasha and Charlotte, have come full circle and now have Ric Flair again in this feud. Sasha keeps winning on random RAW episodes, and Charlotte has yet to lose a match on PPV where the title is on the line. (She does NOT have an undefeated streak on PPV, as she has lost in tag matches and other matches where the belt is not on the line). The Women’s Championship has been in existence for a year, and the only two women to hold the belt have both held it three times. In the 8 years the Divas belt existed, only two women won the belt 3 times. Eve Torres is a three time champion, and it took her 2 years to accomplish this. AJ Lee was the other, and she and Paige traded the belt back and forth before Paige went nuts and never became a three time champion.
My Pick: Charlotte Flair. Because fuck it.
The Build: Roman Reigns doesn’t care about the US Championship. He barely brings the belt out and doesn’t defend it. The US Championship is below the Universal Championship. This is a fact no matter what the booking, but normally storylines involving the belt are supposed to make the belt feel special, which is why this story doesn’t revolve around the US Belt. I really don’t understand why Reigns retained the belt if they were going to have him face Owens.
My Pick: Kevin Owens. Via shenanigans most likely. I think having Reigns be a “dual Champ” is a very Vince thing to do thanks to Conor McGregor, but Conor just got stripped of a title. So unless Reigns gets stripped of the US Belt, I don’t see them doing this.
