Hello, everyone, and welcome to another edition of Making the Grade. Tonight's it's everyone's favorite Gimmick PPV, TLC! Or is it Elimination Chamber? Or Fatal Four Way? Either way, tonight is TLC. How was it? Let's find out!
Kickoff: 10-man tag, American Alpha, Hype Bros, Apollo Crews v. Vaudevillains, The Ascension, Curt Hawkins
Is it WWE policy now that kickoff show matches A) won't be announced and B) won't have any storyline implications or background? Another pointless ten-man tag match to fill time in the kickoff show, but hey, Apollo Crews still has a job.
Grade: C, same old same old, American Alpha wins another pointless kickoff match while still not being able to capitalize in matches that matter.
Tag Team Titles: Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton v. Slyno (c)
If I were a betting man, I would have bet good money on Slyno's reign coming to an end tonight. Let's see if I would have been right.
Grade: B, very solid match. We finally get a show of trust from Luke Harper to Randy, and Bray wins his first title in WWE. Good start to the night.
Nikki Bella v. Carmella, No DQ
I expect almost nothing from this match, so it will be hard for it to disappoint.
Grade: C, fairly lackluster for a No DQ match. Nikki sells the leg injury all match but hits her finisher with no problem.
IC Title: Dolph Ziggler v. The Miz (c), Ladder Match
This match should steal the show. Miz and Ziggler have fought approximately 17,000 times, but they have a chemistry that is undeniable.
Grade: B, fantastic match hampered by a slightly nonsensical ending. Why would Miz set up a second ladder instead of just climbing the one that was already there?
Kalisto v. Baron Corbin, Chairs Match
Still a dumb idea for a match.
Grade: B, dumb match, good execution. A number of near falls I thought were actual finishes, and the End of Days on the pile of chairs was a nice touch.
Women's Title: Alexa Bliss v. Becky Lynch (c), Tables Match
Another women's first here, I expect big things. Big things and an Alexa Bliss victory. (ETA: I have been informed this was not actually the first women's tables match. Still impressive, though)
Grade: A, beautiful match. Both women showing they belong and showing they can put together a tables match just as well as the men. Also, Alexa won.
WWE Title: Dean Ambrose v. AJ Styles (c), TLC Match
Will this finally be the end of this feud that's been going since the brand split happened back in August? Maybe!
Grade: A, despite Ellsworth this match was out of this world, that 450 springboard on Dean through a table was unbelievable. Bravo to both men.
Average Grade: B, the Bella/Mella match and the kickoff match drag the overall score down a little bit, but still a good show.
I have no Extra Credit or Demerits tonight so...
Final Grade: B, gimmick PPVs can be overbooked and terrible (*koff*chairsmatch*koff*), but tonight's show overcame that and put out some great matches and some really good matches, and absolutely killed it with that main event. Kudos to everyone involved, except Nikki Bella, cause fuck Nikki Bella...
There you have it! Straight up solid B! Good show all around. If you didn't get a chance to watch it live I urge you to go back and watch it. It really is a solid show from top to bottom.
That does it for this edition of Making the Grade, I'll be back in two weeks for Roadblock!
