Power Top Rankings 2017: Week 4

I was gone for a while because I live off of comments, and I was starving.  Monday Night Raw tried to follow up an amazing Owens/Jericho segment with this show, and while it was not as good of a show as last week, it was a better show then we have been seeing.
Picture
Universal Title: Kevin Owens came out to run down Bill Goldberg.  He took a shot at Brock Lesnar, and when it was time to talk about Y2J, he dropped the mic and left.  Owens was back to his prizefighter days.  No more comedy, no more slapstick.  We have a serious heel champion again.  Billy was not present this week.

US Title: RIP Chris Jericho

BRAUN:  Braun took on Big Show and showed everyone that he is better than Big Show was in his prime.  Strowman put on a clinic to show how far he has come.  He is still set to face Roman Reigns, who continued to dominate the entire Tag Team division this week.

Joey Samoay: Joseph Islander continued to be a hitman bobblehead this week, and his promos have been stellar since he arrived on the scene.  He is set to face Sami Zayn at Fastlane, where he intends to do to Sami what he did to Tyson Kidd...err... Seth Rollins.
Picture
Rag Tag: Enzo and Big Cass beat Cesaro and Sheamus to become number 1 contenders.  Cass and Zo should have no problem taking on a team who can’t beat one guy.
Picture
Women's Title: Baybay was asked to relinquish the title, but refused.  Not sure why the high priced David Otungas could not do the exact same thing they did last time someone cheated to beat Charlotte, but fuck it.  Nobody is watching anyways.
Picture
SmackDown Live continued to be excellent, this week having a white person take something from a black person, and having a battle royal that was clearly won by one guy, but the GM, who’s brain is pudding, could not decide a winner.
Picture
World Title: A battle royal was held.  We continued to build up the Ziggler vs Smiling Titus/Smaller Rey Mysterio feud, Big Breakfast vs Wacky Dean, and started the Cena vs Miz feud that nobody was asking for.  It came down to AJ Styles and Luke Harper.  Harper grabbed Styles off the top turnbuckle, but instead of Styles hitting the ring apron and then falling with Harper, Styles just fell to the ground and 2 days later Luke Harper hit the ground.  Daniel Bryan made a match next week with Harper vs Styles.
Picture
Tag Titles: Please do something with this dumpster fire.  If you want the Ascension to be built up, you need to have them beat the OTHER TAG TEAMS, NOT LOSE TO THE CHAMPIONS.  We continue to have just one tag match a show, and it’s been American Alpha beating a random team.
Picture
Women's Title: Naomi, who was hurt the last time she was going to get the title, got hurt.  She has some type of knee injury, which is why you should not have put the belt on a person who just returned from a knee injury three weeks ago.  We got a Lynch vs Bliss match for the vacant title, and Alexa Bliss became the first two time SmackDown Live Women’s Champion.  Sploosh.

Elimination Chamber Match for the WWE Championship
John Cena © VS AJ Styles vs Dean Ambrose vs The Miz vs Baron Corbin vs Bray Wyatt

The Build: John Cena beat AJ Styles clean at Royal Rumble to win his 16th World Championship.  The idea was always that both of these guys would be in the elimination chamber.  Instead of getting an Intercontinental Championship match, we instead get Ambrose in the Chamber.  Expect Randy Orton will be paying attention to this match as the winner will face him at Wrestlemania.

My Pick: Bray Wyatt.  This makes the most sense storyline wise.  The other options are John Cena (which we have seen 84 times already), Ambrose (which doesn’t make sense with the IC belt) or a heel vs heel match.

Tag Team Turmoil Match for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships
American Alpha © vs Slyno vs Breezango vs The Usos vs The Ascension vs The Vaudevillains

The Build: Good lord.  There was none.  American Alpha were left off the Royal Rumble card altogether.  They put out an open challenge which brought out the entire division.

My Pick: American Alpha, but hopefully this brings up The Revival.

Singles Match for the WWE SmackDown Women’S Championship
Alexa Bliss © vs Naomi
The Build: Alexa had Mickie James help her defeat Becky Lynch and put out an open challenge (cause that is something a heel does).  Naomi returned to challenge her.

My Pick: Alexa Bliss.  It’s just not Naomi’s time.  Alexa is doing far too much to elevate the belt.

Nikki Bella vs Natalya in a Singles Match
The Build: KILL IT WITH FIRE!

My Pick: We all lose.

Becky Lynch vs Mickie James in a Singles Match
The Build: Becky Lynch attempted to play mind games with Alexa Bliss by showing up in a La Luchadora outfit.  Bliss returned the favor the next week.  During Lynch’s title opportunity, a person in the La Luchadora outfit interfered, and Becky Lynch tried to unwrap the intruder like an Arby’s roast beef sandwich fresh from the drive through, only to find that it was former Diva Mickie James.  James had returned to get the respect she feels she deserves.

My Pick: Mickie James.  Sorry Becky.

Luke Harper vs Randy Orton in a Singles Match
The Build: Randy Orton and Luke Harper have been fighting for Bray Wyatt’s attention since Orton joined the family.  Harper was an original, and Orton was an interloper.  After weeks of Harper and Orton stepping on each others' dicks, Royal Rumble finally saw Harper snap.  He gave a discus clothsline to Bray and attempted to take Orton out of the Rumble.  While Harper was tossed from the match by Taker (because that makes sense) the following SmackDown Live saw Harper fully leave out from under Bray.  The latest SmackDown Live saw Harper fully emerge as his own man after another discus clothsline to Bray and a shove to Orton which caused Cena to beat Orton.

My Pick: Randy Orton.  I wish I could pick Harper, cause I loves me some swamp gas, but Orton has to gain some momentum heading into WrestleMania.

Apollo Crews and Kalisto vs Dolph Ziggler in a 2 on 1 Handicap Match
The Build: Dirf Zoggler turned heel, and it appeared that big things were on the horizon.  Those big things were lower midcard buddies Apollo Crews and Kalisto.  He attacked both with Steel Chairs, leading to a handicap match.

My Pick: Ziggler via Jack Swagger.  Book it.  Come back here after Chamber and bask in my glorious omnipotence.

It’s time for a touch of class, straight from my big white ass, It’s the Power Top Rankings!

AKA Monday Night Reigns

Tag Team Titles: I miss the old days where you could have Tag Team storylines that were unique.  The Club retain by DQ.  Cesaro and Sheamus retain by DQ.  The New Day retain by DQ.  Rinse, Lather, Repeat until death.
Picture
Women's Title: They announced Nia Jax weighs 272 lbs on Raw.  First, no other woman has her weight been announced; second, Kevin Owens is announced as 266 lbs.  Nia is a big, beautiful woman, but they can’t just let someone with a different body type be a powerhouse, they have to fat shame her.  I can’t wait for Cole to say that Nia is 2.28 Bayleys.  Oh, and Charlotte and Sasha Banks are a part of this feud as well.
Roman Reigns: Let’s be honest here, Superman is a boring hero.  Superman is all powerful.  He is so powerful that they needed to create a weakness for him: Kryptonite.  Who cares if it doesn’t make sense, he has a weakness.  Without this weakness, no one can beat him (other than Doomsday, but more on that later).

Because he has this weakness, every bad guy he faces has to use Kryptonite in order to even the playing field.  In case you haven’t noticed by now, Roman Reigns is Superman.  His Kryptonite is outside interference.  The people he faces all look weak because without bringing Kryptonite to the ring, they stand no chance.

There is a reason why most people do not list Superman as their favorite.  Most people would look at Deadpool or Wolverine as a favorite.  These two guys, while they can’t be killed (and really, no super hero is being killed without coming back at this point) they can be beaten.  And they get beaten often.  The big difference is that they overcome most things thrown at them.  They don’t give up.  Wolverine can be taken out with any matter of weapon, but he keeps coming back.  You root for him to get back up, dust himself off and go at it again and again until he finally wins.

The reason that people are hating on Roman Reigns is because he faces no adversity.  He has nothing to overcome.  He can’t be beaten, and while this would work great for a heel, as a face, you can’t find any sympathy for his situation.  He’s a guy who has been handed everything (he got a title shot, then another, and then even when he lost he got another shot at it by being in the Rumble). He’s a guy who every loss since Finn Balor beat him clean has been because of outside interference, and his clean losses to Balor and Rollins were a punishment.  He’s a guy who comes to the ring wearing body armor.  He’s a guy who took a shot to the face with brass knuckles and acted like Kevin Owens had hit him with a feather.

Everyone wants to compare him to John Cena, but you can’t compare him to modern day John Cena.  John Cena has actually lost clean on a few occasions, and they have felt special.  I’m not sure that I remember a time that Cena was booked like this.  Yes, it takes a lot to beat Super Cena, but that’s because he’s an end boss.  However, people have done it clean.

Rollins was choked out by Samoa Joe last week.  Rollins, the last guy to beat Roman Reigns clean in a one-on-one match where Reigns didn’t face anyone earlier in the night, a two time WWE Champion was choked out by the first two-time NXT Champion.  The next week, because Reigns has to be inserted into every feud, Samoa Joe was to take on Roman Reigns.  Reigns looked strong the entire match and had Joe beat until his Kryptonite showed up.  Braun Strowman (a guy who was booked to be a beast but was laid out a few weeks back by one Superman punch) interfered in the match and allowed Joe to beat Roman Reigns.

Reigns has only lost four of his 15 matches so far in 2017.  He lost a two-on-one handicap match to lose the US Belt.  He lost a six man tag match.  He lost a match against Kevin Owens thanks to Jericho and Strowman, and now he lost to Samoa Joe thanks to Strowman.

In 2016, Reigns lost a grand total of 12 times, three of those loses came in singles matches, and only twice cleanly (his other loss was via outside interference). This is why people are booing your “top star.”  This is why I don’t care about Roman Reigns.

Elimination Chamber: The chamber is shaping up to be fun.  Cena, The Miz, Ambrose, Big Breakfast, Styles, and Bray are far better contenders than the last Elimination Chamber.  I’m really sad that we don’t have Noam Dar or Goldberg in the Chamber.  Could you imagine the jokes we could make?

Wyatt Family: Luke Harper is now officially against the New Wyatt Family.  What is more, we could see Erick Rowan returning soon, and it will be interesting to see what side he will join.

Who gives a shit: Ziggler is stuck in hell right now.  He is taking on Crews and Kalisto.  Who cares.
Picture
Tag Team Titles: The Tag Team Gumbo continues.  Hopefully we get some things shaken up soon in the tag divisions.
Picture
Women's Title: Alexa Bliss and Naomi will face at Elimination Chamber.  Naomi keeps missing her heat height.  She was hot before getting her eye decimated, and now was hot before getting hurt.  She returned to a luke warm reception, and there was not enough time to reclaim that heat before Sunday.

Other shit is going on, but other than Lynch and James, no one gives a shit about it.
